As an adult, I spent every Valentine’s Day quietly feeling let down and disappointed by my partners’ lack of effort or last-minute planning.
It wasn’t until I was

... a widow
... and a single mom
Tired of feeling sad and lonely, I decided to use holidays like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day to
to something I really wanted and deserved.
And that little decision alone was so
that those days felt not only joyful but also incredibly empowering.

In my line of work, many of the portraits I produce also have the unintended effect of making some people feel “othered”...
... like they don't “fit the mold” of those
thin, heterosexual, two-kids-and-a-dog families
who regularly treat themselves to beautiful family photos.
