Creating a Wall Display that Can Grow

Would you LOVE to see your photos on your walls... but you're JUST NOT SURE how to do it???

Does the thought of creating a wall display trigger all of these uncertainties???

        What size will look good?

        How do I arrange them?

What if I want to add photos as the years go by?

Read on for some simple tips and tricks for creating a wall display you're sure to love!!

(Because after all, SEEING your favorite people in your favorite photos every day is CERTAIN to bring you more joy than having them UNSEEN on your hard drive and NIGGLING guiltily on your mental To-Do list.)

Tip #1: Go BIG

Pick a photo that MAKES YOUR HEART SING, and blow it up BIG!!!

At least 20" x 30" or bigger. (The center canvas pictured here is 20" x 30".)

Use this as the center piece of your display.

Tip #2: Add Unity

The photos and/or artwork in your display are likely to be very diverse.

Consider a way to add some unity to your diverse collection. Here are some ways to do that...

  • Consider a uniform frame and/or matt color to use.  (Ex: these all have light birch frames.) In my past life I used all white, or all black frames to unify my photos.

Another option...

Align your images into one clean line along the bottom.

This leads the eye smoothly from one image to the next, regardless of the different shapes and sizes in your display.

Another way to do this effectively is to create your display on a floating picture shelf.

Tip #3: Use a Level and a Ruler

Be sure to use a level and a ruler to get your pictures straight and uniformly spaced out.

How much space to leave between pictures depends on how airy/clustered you'd like your display to look... too much space can lead to a less unity, and too little space can feel cluttered.

I generally like having 4-6" between items (both above and below them).
